First International Researchers’ Meetup

SIC helps international researchers feel in Central Bohemia Region like at home

On 27th February 2020 the Central Bohemian Innovation Centre (SIC) organized the First International Researchers´ Meetup for more than 20 non-Czech native researchers of more than 10 nationalities. Scientists from the field of astronomy, laser physics, biotechnology, energy, botany, chemistry and others shared and exchanged their life and work experience and had the opportunity to meet new colleagues and network. Central Bohemia long term initiative is not only to attract but also to retain top researchers from other countries in the region.

Researchers representing different research organisations, such as ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany, BIOCEV in Vestec, Astronomical Institute in Ondřejov and Prague, Institute of Botany in Průhonice, Technopark of the University of Chemistry and Technology in Kralupy nad Vltavou or University Centre of Energy Efficient Buildings in Buštěhrad came together for an informal meetup.

The aim of the meetup was to introduce the Central Bohemia Region, its innovation potential and SIC activities and projects targeted to researchers and research organisations. The participants shared with us their expectations and needs, and tips and advises where to look for information, Czech language courses or integration activities were presented. Questions regarding Czech tax system, as well as national grant opportunities for scientists were raised. “This type of feedback is very important for us and allows us to customize the next meetups and the Welcome Office offer for the next incoming foreign researchers in the region,” says Martina Vycudilíková, project manager for research and education and she adds: “We hope that activities such as this will create a dynamic international community and other international meetups will follow”.
