Smart Accelerator in the Central Bohemian Region

Over the long term, the Central Bohemian Region has been among the economically most advanced regions in the Czech Republic; however, until recently, it lacked an effective instrument that could provide targeted support for research, development, innovation and related education. In this respect, the region has been experiencing dynamic changes – the Smart Accelerator project in the Central Bohemian Region will significantly support the development of an innovative environment and the competitiveness of the key economic sectors in the region.
The objectives of the Smart Accelerator project are to support innovation in business and the development of new innovative enterprises and to initiate collaboration between the research, entrepreneurial and public sectors.
The project is systemically continuing the current collaboration between the region and universities, science and research organizations and innovative business on accomplishing the regional innovative strategy and the smart specialization strategy of the Central Bohemian Region.
The project’s implementation will support the development of key sectors that are seen by the region´s representatives as important and promising for the further development of the regional economy.
The Central Bohemian Region together with SIC have been implementing individual activities of the Smart Accelerator project since March 2016.
They focus on:
- deepening collaboration between the academic and enterprise sectors;
- transferring new knowledge into practice;
- popularizing technical subjects and natural sciences at primary and secondary schools in the region;
- and promoting the spirit of enterprise in secondary and university graduates.
The project also involves the establishment of collaboration with innovation centres in developed countries with the aim of using their knowledge for the innovative environment in the Central Bohemian Region.
These project objectives will be achieved with the help of marketing and analytical tools, through training courses that will be initiated and collaboration with foreign partners involved in innovation will be established and deepened.
The project is financed from the European Structural and Investment Funds through the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education for the 2014 – 2020 period and from funds of the Central Bohemian Region.
