European Research Council

Support for innovative, creative and original projects that push the boundaries of current knowledge. The project is based on the personality of the principal investigator and his/her results to date. The investigator must have a host institution. The grant is tied to the person and is ‘portable’ to another host institution. Calls are divided into Starting grants (young scientists 2-7 years after Ph.D.), Consolidator grants (7-12 years after Ph.D.), Advanced grants (support for experts based on their results for the past 10 years), Synergy grants (projects of 2-4 researchers working on a multidisciplinary solution), Proof of concept grants (proof of concept activities for ERC grant holders).

Applicants: A scientist/researcher from anywhere, a host institution from an EU Member State or an H2020 Associated Country.

Future and Emerging technologies

Projects of early-stage research. Calls are divided into FET Open (very early stage of research), FET Pro Active (support for new research topics and areas that are still forming and are not yet well-established: the topics are specified in the work programme and the project must meet the given topic and objective of the call), FET Flagship (major projects that bring together actors from the field).

Research infrastructures

Support for research infrastructures that are important to the European Research Area. Emphasis is placed on implementing the ESFRI map
(European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures). Projects that support the identification of infrastructures, mapping, networking, cooperation between infrastructures and industry. These are neither infrastructure projects nor involve the financing of the operating costs of these infrastructures.

Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation

The projects focus on EU countries with poor R&D performance. These countries include the Czech Republic. The aim is to strengthen excellence in RO in these countries

European Innovation Council

From 2018, the newly formed European Innovation Council will bring together parts that place great emphasis on innovation. These include FET Open (projects of very early stage research), SME Instruments (projects focusing on innovative SMEs), Fast Track to Innovation (projects close to market application) and Prizes (awards in multiple categories)

Cooperation on joint research between a research organization and the application sector, activities to deepen cooperation, the development of a strategy for long-term cooperation between the entities.

Teaming II

Completing, modernising and upgrading infrastructure, activities to implement the modernization (upgrade) of centre(s) of excellence to enhance their scientific capabilities.

Applicants: research organizations that submitted a project to the WIDESPREAD-04-2017 call and were indicated as a “Coordinator in country” in the “Projects to be funded under Phase 1 of the Horizon 2020 Teaming call” list; and projects that submitted a project to the WIDESPREAD-2014-1 TEAMING call and were indicated as a “Coordinator in country” in the “Projects to be funded under Phase 1 of the Horizon 2020 Teaming call” list and, at the same time, that submitted a project to the WIDESPREAD-01-2016-2017: Teaming Phase 2 call and, at the same time, that were not financed under that call or under the OP RDE Teaming call.

Research infrastructures for educational purposes – building or modernization

Investment activities that are based on a research-oriented degree programme that was created or modernised within a complementary call or in a previous period. Rebuilding, expanding facilities, purchasing equipment.

Applicants: research organizations. If the beneficiary is an entity that is not a university guaranteeing a research-oriented degree programme, a mandatory partner to the project must be a university that will guarantee the newly created/modernised research-oriented degree programme for which the infrastructure is being acquired.

Research infrastructures

Completing, building, modernising or upgrading infrastructure, including supplying parts of research infrastructures or research equipment to research infrastructures located in other countries. Research activity.

Innovation

Purchasing consulting, expert and support services in the field of innovation from research organizations; or support activities performed by innovation infrastructure entities (science and technology parks, innovation centres) in the area of increasing absorption capacity, distribution and use of innovation vouchers.

Knowledge transfer partnership

Establishing a partnership between a research organization and a small- or medium-sized enterprise through the participation of a graduate of a master’s or doctoral programme directly from the enterprise under the supervision of a selected expert workplace.
The graduate must participate in at least one of the following activities: a) the improvement of manufacturing processes, b) the development/innovation of new products and services or process innovation in the development and introduction of new products and services, c) the improvement of corporate processes, including the product certification process.

Marketing

Services for SMEs focusing on international competitiveness to facilitate entry into foreign markets (participation at foreign exhibitions and trade fairs, organising workshops/events focusing on specific issues of enterprises looking for new development opportunities, etc.) Sophisticated consulting services provided by experts with knowledge of the international environment (with specific territorial knowledge) and consulting services for strategic management and innovation management (mentoring, coaching, foresight, etc.). Services aimed at supporting the internationalization of SMEs. Services supporting SMEs’ involvement in international programmes, such as in the area of research cooperation (Horizon 2020, COSME). Services aimed at improving the marketing and management skills of SMEs.

Properties

  • Projects that link research of a technical and non-technical nature

GAMA (2014 – 2019)

Support for verifying the results of applied research and experimental development in terms of their practical applications and for preparing their subsequent commercial use. Sub-programme 1 is aimed at supporting the use of R&D results that were created in RO and have a high potential for application. Sub-programme 2 is aimed at supporting projects of applied research and – above all – experimental development that leads to demonstrable commercialization of the results obtained. This sub-programme also makes it possible to finance SME Instrument Seal of Excellence holders – Phase 1 of Horizon 2020.

Applicants: In sub-programme 1, beneficiaries may only be research organizations; in sub-programme 2, beneficiaries may only be enterprises while a research organization may be an additional participant.
