Cities can save money through smart procurement

Public institutions purchase goods and services through public procurement. At the same time, these institutions can be a tool for implementing modern technologies and procedures – in such case we are talking about Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI), where an institution then requests services or products that are unavailable on the market or are available only to a limited extent.

This demand stimulates the private sector to innovate and find new solutions. In most Central European regions, widespread use of PPIs is missing due to lack of tools and knowledge. This innovative trend is what the Liberec Innovation Centre DEX Innovation in cooperation with the Technology Centre AS CR is trying to implement through the PPI2Innovate project in the last 3 years. The Central Bohemian Innovation Centre (SIC) is also involved in public procurement of innovative solutions for the public sector (PPI). SIC implements a project financed by the Interreg Danube program called RI2integrate. With the help of the RI2integrate project, SIC is preparing to implement IT innovations in the Central Bohemia Region. Based on the cooperation with the Liberec DEX Innovation Centre, the SIC will become a competence centre and will provide consultancy services at national level for contracting authorities and subsequently link the public sector with the private sector.
