D-STIR

D-STIR
The Danube Framework for Responsible Research and Innovation using Socio-Technical Integration
Acronym: D-STIR
Project number: DTP1-1-019-1.1
Implementation period: from 1 January 2017 to 30 June 2019
Total budget: EUR 1.9 million
Co-financing: The European Regional Development Fund (EUR 1.66 million)

The project aims to improve the conditions for innovation in the Danube region by incorporating the principles of responsible research and innovation and, in turn, supporting their implementation while taking account of the social, environmental and ethical impacts.

D-STIR is important for the future setting of framework conditions in the area of innovation in the Danube region, as innovation has significant socio-economic impacts on society. Uneven economic development can be seen in capital, expenditures and infrastructure, including the risk of disproportionate political influence on R&D. Quadruple Helix is a model that focuses on relationships between universities, industry, government and the public that are not functioning perfectly. Responsible Research Innovation (RRI) is better able to involve society in research and innovation activities in the following six key areas:

  • Engaged society
  • Gender equality
  • Management
  • Ethics
  • Free access
  • Scientific education

Another important activity that is being implemented within the project is *Socio-Technical Integration Research – *STIR. *This method was developed by Dr. Erik Fisher (Arizona State University, USA). It is used in 10 countries on 3 continents and at 30 university and private laboratories (in Europe – in Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain, Denmark and Hungary). The output of the project will be the STIR method adapted to the conditions existing in the Danube region.
